Year Group Expectations for Parents
How we learn
The documents below will really help you as parents and carers understand what we are asking of the children throughout the year. They will also help you to support your child at home. Please take a look below.
EYFS
At Saint Mary's we follow the EYFS framework. This framework explains how and what your child will be learning to support their healthy development.
Your child will be learning skills, acquiring new knowledge and demonstrating their understanding through seven areas of learning and development.
Communication and language;
Physical development;
Personal, social and emotional development.
Literacy;
Mathematics;
Understanding the world;
Expressive arts and design.
These seven areas are used to plan your child’s learning and activities. Our teachers will make sure that the activities are suited to your child’s unique needs. This is a little bit like the curriculum in the main school, but it's suitable for very young children, and it's designed to be really flexible so that staff can follow your child's unique needs and interests.
Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2
Our curriculum is designed by our staff and is designed with our pupils and their life context in mind. The skills in our curriculum are taken from the National Curriculum. The booklets below show what we expect each learner in each Year Group to be able to complete independently by the end of that school year.
