Summer Term

English

In English this term we will be focusing our written work around our class book of 'Macbeth' -focusing on diary writing, letter writing, persuasive writing and play-script writing. We will then use this book to inspire us to write 'I am' poems focusing on the different characters from the story:

Whole Class Reading

Our Author for the Spring Term is Andy William who wrote the children's version of 'Macbeth'. The children will study this book in class and answer a range of questions about it in pairs as well as independently.

 

Maths

In maths the children will be learning all about shape, position and direction, decimals, negative numbers and conversion. In shape we will look at the features of 2D and 3D shapes and focus on symmetry and also angels. We will then move on to studying co-ordinates and translating and reflecting different shapes. In decimals we will begin to add, subtract and multiply decimals and use these skills towards many reasoning problems. We will gain a good understanding of negative numbers and finally finish with conversion of lengths, weight and capacity.

 

Science

In science we will be looking at Forces and their effect on movement. We will investigate the forces of:  friction, water resistance, air resistance, gravity (and its affects on Earth) and how different forces can work against each other. We will then finish the year working with Accrington Stanley on our 'Move and Learn' programme focusing on exercise, well being and healthy eating.

 

History

History takes place on a Tuesday afternoon and is taught by Mrs Bentley, this term the children will be learning all about 

 

Geography

As we continue our Spring Term we will moving onto our 

 

Art

Art takes place on a Tuesday afternoon and is taught by Mrs Bentley, this term the children will be working on

 

Design

DT takes place on a Tuesday afternoon and is taught by Mrs Bentley, this term the children will be working on

 

PE

In PE will will start the year focusing on Cricket and then move onto to team building skills. At the end of the term we will play Rounder's and work with Accrington Stanley on our 'Move and Learn' programme.

 

Music

This term we are learning about ‘Musical Theatre'. We will study the history of Musical theatre and what we expect to see and hear at a Musical theatre show. We will learn about the different roles of people who work on musicals as well as character and action songs. We will also work in groups to create our own musical piece!

 

French

In French we are focusing on shopping in France and the names for items as well as linking it to maths by working out cost of items.

 

RE

In RE we will be learning all about how we follow rules as good followers of Jesus and look in depth at the 10 commandments. We will think about our own responsibility and how we can honour God and his creation. We will then look at being good stewards of God, by respecting his creation and study different Saints. We will also look at the work done by CAFOD to support those in need and the effects of climate change. We will also study our other religion of Islam and end the year with our 'Journey in Love' Sex education lesson.

 

Computing

In computing we are learning about quizzing and we will create several quizzes aimed at different audiences. We will then study 3D modelling and create a digital model linked to our DT topic.

 

P.S.H.E

In the spring term for PSHE we focus on:

Physical health and Mental wellbeing - Healthy sleep habits; sun safety; medicines, vaccinations, immunisations and allergies

Growing and changing - Personal identity; recognising individuality and different qualities; mental wellbeing

Keeping safe-Keeping safe in different situations, including responding in emergencies and first aid
