Pupil Leadership

Pupil Leadership

At St Mary’s, we are huge advocates of pupil leadership and this can be seen across numerous areas of our curriculum. As part of our Catholic Life, we are lucky to have both a GIFT Team and Prayer Leaders which encourage our pupils to take on meaningful roles in both our school and the wider community. Guided by the words from Proverbs 11:25, “A generous person will prosper; whoever refreshes others will be refreshed,” these groups work collaboratively to uphold our school’s values. Through their efforts, they aim to make a positive difference locally and globally, embracing the principles of service, leadership, and care for the environment as part of our Catholic ethos.

The GIFT Team

The GIFT Team is committed to guiding collective worship and engaging with global issues within our community. They take the lead in organising prayer services, encouraging moments of spiritual reflection, and advocating for social justice projects. By promoting awareness and empathy, the GIFT Team helps our school connect with and support those in need worldwide. Pupils can apply to become part of the GIFT Team when they are in Year 6. Pupils must write a letter to the Head Teacher explaining why they would be good at the role and how they could help our school community.

GIFT Team Events:

December 2024
The GIFT Team held a family worship where they talked to families about the meaning of Advent and how we can share hope during this time. They also welcomed figures to our nativity scene. This was a beautiful liturgy which was really well attended.

Prayer Leaders

Prayer Leaders are in all classes in school. There are two prayer leaders in each class chosen from pupil volunteers. Prayer Leaders meet regularly with our RE lead, Mrs Wolfenden and they work on how they can enhance whole school prayer.
