Summer Term

English (More detail can be found on English overview)

In English this term we will be focusing our written work around our class book of 'Macbeth' -focusing on instructions, letter writing, persuasive writing and narrative writing. We will then use this book to inspire us to write 'I am' poems focusing on the different characters from the story.

Whole Class Reading

Our Author for the Spring Term is Andy William who wrote the children's version of 'Macbeth'. The children will study this book in class and answer a range of questions about it in pairs as well as independently. We will also read 'Romeo and Juliet' and 'A Midsummer Night's dream'.

Maths (More detail can be found on Maths overview)

In maths the children will be learning all about decimals, shape, position and direction, negative numbers, converting units and measures.

Science

In science we will be looking at different life cycles and animals and observing and describing differences, comparing animals and plants as well as reproduction in animals and plants. We will then finish the year working with Accrington Stanley on our 'Move and Learn' programme focusing on exercise, well being and healthy eating.

Geography

Geography takes place on a Tuesday afternoon and is taught by Mrs Murray, children will be learning all about Brazil and comparing it to life here in the U.K!

History

History takes place on a Tuesday afternoon and is taught by Mrs Murray. In the Summer term, the children will be learning all about Ancient Egypt! They will learn who the Ancient Egyptians were, what was life like in Ancient Egypt, the ritual of Mummification and find out Who was TUTANKHAMUN! Children will learn how to write like and Egyptian and finally who the Gods of Egypt were.

Art and Design

Art takes place on a Tuesday afternoon and is taught by by Mrs Murray, this term the children will be working on Pharaoh Self Portraits! They will draw in pencil, charcoal and pen and will also be creating their own Egyptian Death Masks too!

PE

In PE will will start the year focusing on Rounders and then move onto to team building skills. At the end of the term we will complete gymnastics and work with Accrington Stanley on our 'Move and Learn' programme.

Music (See Music Overview)

This term we are learning about ‘Samba’ music through lessons with Mr Berry. We will explore all the instruments linked to samba and practise many different rhythm patterns. We will create many pieces which we can’t wait to perform to you at the end of the term!

French

In French we are focusing on the Eurovision song contest and the names for musical instruments as well as musical genres. We will also be writing songs based on these facts.

RE

In RE we will be learning all about how we follow rules as good followers of Jesus and look in depth at the 10 commandments. We will think about our own responsibility and how we can honour God and his creation. We will then look at being good stewards of God, by respecting his creation and study different Saints. We will also look at the work done by CAFOD to support those in need and the effects of climate change. We will also study our other religion of Islam and end the year with our 'Journey in Love' Sex education lesson.

P.S.H.E

In the summer term for PSHE we focus on economic wellbeing, family and relationships. During this term, children will be undertaking the Sex Education Programme ‘A Journey in Love’.
