How we learn
Each year in September we hold a 'Meet the Teacher evening. This enables you as parents and carers to come along to school and meet your child's class teacher and teaching assistant. The staff will detail what the curriculum for the year will look like, what homework will take place, how you can hep at home and practical information such as PE days etc. This is a great time to ask any questions you may have.
EYFS
At Saint Mary's we follow the EYFS framework. This framework explains how and what your child will be learning to support their healthy development.
Your child will be learning skills, acquiring new knowledge and demonstrating their understanding through seven areas of learning and development.
Communication and language;
Physical development;
Personal, social and emotional development.
Literacy;
Mathematics;
Understanding the world;
Expressive arts and design.
These seven areas are used to plan your child’s learning and activities. Our teachers will make sure that the activities are suited to your child’s unique needs. This is a little bit like the curriculum in the main school, but it's suitable for very young children, and it's designed to be really flexible so that staff can follow your child's unique needs and interests.
KS1 Phonics Screening Test
In June of Year1 pupils will sit the statutory Phonics Screening Check. This will assess the decoding skills children have learned so far. They will be tested on a mixture of real and non-real words. Mrs McGarry is our phonics lead and will hold meetings for parents and carers as the test approaches to show you what the test entails and how you can support your child at home.
KS2 (Year 6) SATs Meeting for Parents and Carers
