ENGLISH
We start the half term with 'Groovy Greeks', where we will read a range of Greek myths to inspire our writing. We will write narrative, poetry and non-fiction linked to the Ancient Greeks. In Summer 2, we will be reading classic poetry, through a unit based on Macavity, the Mystery Cat, a poem by T.S. Elliott. Our novel for whole class reading will be Kaspar, Prince of Cats, by Michael Morpurgo.
MATHS
Our Maths topics for Summer 1 are Properties of Shape, focusing on angles, position and direction, money and time.
In Summer 2, we will look at decimals, negative numbers and converting measures.
There will be lots of preparation for the Year 4 Multiplication tables Check this term too.
SCIENCE
Forces, including magnets is the first Summer topic. The work of Sir Isaac Newton and his discovery of gravity will be studied, as well as friction, air and water resistance and magnetic forces. This will be followed by learning about materials, reversible and irreversible materials and the properties of materials.
R.E.
To The Ends of The Earth, Branch 5, will start our R.E. work this term. We will read scripture passages about events that took place after the resurrection of Jesus and look at how the early church was formed and developed through the work of the disciples, by the help of the Holy Spirit.
COMPUTING
As always, online safety will start the term off and the rest of the term we will be learning about coding, how to write codes and troubleshoot when a code is not working.
HISTORY
Ancient Greeks is the Summer topic. We will find out about democracy, famous Ancient Greeks, Greek gods and religion, philosophers, architecture, the Olympic Games and look at how archaeologists find artefacts that tell us about life in Ancient Greece and the legacy of Ancient Greece.
GEOGRAPHY
Rivers will be our theme in the second half of the summer term, where we will find out about UK and world rivers, pollution and make comparisons between rivers.
D/T
The Ancient Greeks will also provide us with our D/T work. We will look at vases made by the Ancient Greeks, their purposes and what they tell us about the past. We will design, make and evaluate a vase in the style of the Greeks out of clay, learning new techniques and tools to create texture, shape and pattern.
PSHE
Economic Wellbeing is our PSHE topic during Summer 1 and in Summer 2 the focus will be on the family and relationships curriculum using the RSE Catholic Curriculum resources from the Salford Diocese.
MUSIC
This term Dolphins' class will learn the djembe drums with a specialist music teacher, Mr Berry. Mr Berry will teach the children all about the instrument as well as how to play it focusing on rhythm and beat. There will be a performance towards the end of the Summer term for the whole school and parents, where Dolphins' pupils will show you the skills that they have developed.
P.E.
This term we have six cricket sessions with Raheem, from Church Cricket Club, as well as multi-skills sessions with a team from Accrington Stanley. We will also focus on striking and fielding skills through rounders and athletics (running, jumping and throwing). Sports Day too will take place this term.
FRENCH
The topic for the Summer term will be 'Miam, imam!' which teaches the children about food. We will learn how to say a range of food in French, how to order in a restaurant and design our own menus in French.
