Spring Term

ENGLISH

Disney Pixar's short film La Luna is the focus for our English work during Spring 1. We will be writing play scripts, explanations and persuasive texts about the moon and planets. Spring 2 will be based on a classic novel, The Jungle Book by Rudyard Kipling. This will be the focus for a range of fiction writing styles and also senses poems.

 

MATHS

During the Spring term our Maths' topics will be Multiplication and Division, Fractions and Length and Perimeter. After February half term we will learn about Decimals and Percentages, Perimeter and Area and Statistics. We will continually focus on Times Tables, helping to become fluent in recalling and applying these in different mathematical topics.

 

SCIENCE

The first Science topic is Earth and Space, where we will look at scientific evidence to support facts about the Earth and the solar system. This will be followed by a topic about Living Things, covering teeth, the digestive system and life cycles.

 

R.E.

Following the season of Christmas, we will start by learning about the Epiphany through the topic  'Galilee to Jerusalem', and then we will look at the kingdom of God through some of the parables that Jesus told.

 

GEOGRAPHY

Mapping skills is our first Geography topic and we will look at the local area and planning different routes using maps. Rainforests will be the second area of learning, looking at the structure of rainforests, rainforest habitats, endangered animals and the effects of deforestation.

 

ART and DT

For DT, we will be designing and making a moon buggy, using a mechanism. The rainforest theme continues in Spring 2, with looking at the work of Henri Rousseau's, Tiger in a tropical storm. Skills will include drawing, painting and collage.

 

MUSIC

The music topic for the Spring term is 'Rainforests', during which body and tuned percussion instruments will be explored to compose and perform music that sounds like the rainforest.

 

P.E.

Our dance unit uses the theme of the solar system to help create solo, paired and group dances and we will continue to go for a swimming lesson each Friday during the first half of the Spring term. Following this, there will be a gymnastics lesson and dance lesson each week during Spring 2.

 

MFL

French numbers, calendars and birthdays will be learn about during the Spring term in our French lessons.

 

PSHE

We will be learning about Citizenship in our weekly PSHE lessons all term.

 

COMPUTING

Animation and an introduction to AI are the topics for this term, as well as online safety topics, managing information online and health, well-being and lifestyle.
