Autumn Term
ENGLISH
During the Autumn term our work in English will be based on the book Kensuke's Kingdom by Michael Morpurgo. After studying this novel we will be writing an alternative ending for it. Following this, Dolphins' class will be reading and writing some poetry based on poems written about the First World War.
MATHS
Place Value will be the first Maths' topic covered this year. We will then develop our addition and subtraction skills, developing our understanding of written methods. Properties of shapes and multiplication and division will be covered during the second half of the Autumn term. The children will need to be fluent at quickly recalling all times tables up to 12x12 and these will be practised frequently.
SCIENCE
The Science topics for this term are Sound and Electricity. Pupils will be investigating which material is the best for muffling sound and will be designing the electrical circuit needed to make a Christmas decoration with lights and motors.
R.E.
This year will start with a focus on creation through reading the start of the book of Genesis in the Old Testament. Pupils will learn about St. Francis and his love of creation and about Laudato Si, written by Pope Francis.
HISTORY
The First World War is the topic for History, with a focus on the Accrington Pals.
D.T.
In Design Technology, pupils will be designing and making a medal for the soldiers of the war. This will include learning to sew a button on.
ART
Winter trees will be the inspiration, where the children will practise the skills of drawing and printing.
P.E.
Invasion games, gymnastics ands swimming will take place in the Autumn term.
MUSIC
The theme will be Hanami, where haiku will be used to create music and performance.
FRENCH
The children will learn about clothes in French, describing them and expressing opinions.
COMPUTING
The children will start the term with an online safety topic.
PSHE
This term our focus for PSHE is getting to know how to follow our school rules linked to the themes of ‘Be Safe’, ‘Be Ready’ and ‘Be Respectful’.
