Welcome to St Mary's
We are Firminger's Flamingoes
Welcome back.............we hope you have all had a very lovely Christmas and that you have been able to spend some quality time together.
This term we are continuing with our overall theme of Julia Donaldson as we find that her books are exciting, funny and interesting. So far, we had looked at "Stick Man" and the children are really enjoying re-telling the story, drawing the characters on the wall outside with chalk and labelling them with our fantastic phonic knowledge. We have also been using our Maths skills by ordering lots of different sticks, from longest to shortest........and some of us could do that without any help. In the next couple of weeks we will be reading "The Gruffalo" which we know is a popular story but we hope the children can have fun with it, sequencing the story and beginning to attempt to write the character names by themselves. We will also be looking at numbers to 10 and beyond, things we can do with those numbers, 1 more and 1 less, heavy and light, long and short and capacity.
In Early Years, it is important to be able to follow the children's interests. We gain so much, as do they, from being able to have the freedom to explore what excites them. Our walls are often covered with various creations that the children have made with only a little imput from a grown up.
Soon, we will be doing an ice experiment where the children choose things they would like to freeze. We put them in cups with some water and then leave them in the freezer..............
