Summer Term

Welcome back.............we hope you have all had a very lovely Easter and that you have been able to spend some quality time together.

Our topics this term are Minibeasts and Fairy Tales. As well as listening to a variety of stories, we will be focusing on characters, settings and structure. Some of the traditional tales we will be looking at are The Gingerbread Man, Goldilocks and the Three Bears, Jack and the Beanstalk and The Three Little Pigs among many others. The children will have the opportunity to write speech bubbles, sentences and key words from these fairy tales and will no doubt have great fun in the role-play and small world areas, re-enacting the plots and taking turns being the different characters. We will also be learning about Minibeasts, labelling, making lists, looking at what makes a minibeast a minibeast and going on bug hunts.

In Maths, we will be adding and subtracting numbers, looking at numbers to 20, number bonnds to 5 and 10, doubling numbers and talking about time, capacity and weight.

One of our Early Learning Goals in Understand the World is to observe plants and animals, explain why things happen and talk about changes. Over the next few weeks, the children will be looking at plants and flowers and regularly monitoring and recording how they grow. We will test how different environments can affect growth and see what essential things plants and flowers need to flourish.

After half-term, our P.E day will move to Tuesdays and Thursdays and we will have a session with a specialist coach.  Again, we are sure that the children will really enjoy this experience and learn lots of new skills.

Reading books still need to be in school every Monday and Thursday.

Story books will only be changed on a Monday.
